Girl Talk: Finding Your Color

Ok ladies, grab a glass of wine because it’s time for some girl talk I wish someone told me ages ago. I’ve made a ton of stupid mistakes when it comes to my appearance. I once dyed the ends of my hair pink and tried to cut my own fringe that took 3 years to grow back to normal. Of all these mistakes, the one I made this Friday takes the cake since I’ve been walking around with it on my face for 2 years. After getting color matched at Laura Mercier, I realized that I had been wearing a tinted moisturizer 3 shades darker than my actual skin tone! Yes, you read that correctly 3 shades! When the makeup artist put the proper color on me, it completely transformed my skin. My face actually matches my neck now, which looking back on it, that should have been a red flag long ago!IMG_4407.JPG

These past 2 years, I have been buying Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer in “Nude” in the “original” when I should have been wearing “Cameo” in
oil free”.  Nude is described as, “light with neutral to warm undertones” whereas Cameo is, “fair with cool undertones”. I’ve placed the comparison below:

I cannot express the importance of getting matched with the proper foundation color! It’s almost like finding the right bra size, it transforms you. So if you’re wondering if your face is the color it should be, definitely go to your local makeup counter. I always assumed that I could figure it out on my own but it should definitely be left up to the professionals.

  1. You’re not the only one! We’ve all been there! Some of the foundations I’ve bought have been the right color when I apply them but then they oxidize to the wrong shade! It’s awful!
